Giving in the United Methodist Church

One of the unique and defining factors of the United Methodist Church is our connection in our giving. The special giving structure ensures your generosity blesses as many people as possible in sustainable, strategic ways. Through the support of you, and your church, we fund hundreds of projects each year.

Apportioned giving is one of the ways United Methodists reflect their connection. Apportionment giving is a term that describes how the money you give to your church each week is divided and distributed throughout the United Methodist Church.

Apportioned Funds support six funds including the General Administration Fund, Africa University, and the Ministerial Education Fund. Click here to learn more.

When you give on the six Special Sundays, you deepen the connection between the local church and ministries on a global scale. Each Special Sunday offering supports the church’s collective work. This includes but, is not limited to efforts: to alleviate human suffering, engage in social justice, and strengthen Native American ministries.

Every United Methodist can support the ministries they care about, through The Advance with no administrative costs deducted from the donation. The Advance is an accountable, designated giving arm of The United Methodist Church that ensures 100% of each gift is used for its intended mission or ministry. Our work fulfills both physical and spiritual needs through a variety of partnerships worldwide to make life-changing and long-lasting impact.

In all of this, we share the good news of Jesus Christ through our gifts of support to make us a better church for the sake of God’s world.
