A caucus is a group of persons who have joined together to devise policies and positions appropriate to the concerns of the group and who jointly act to advocate for that group and to influence larger entities to respond to their requests and respond to their issues. In The United Methodist Church, a number of caucuses have been formed both denomination-wide and in the Annual Conference. These are unofficial bodies in that they have not been established through action by the General Conference or the Annual Conference and are not accountable to those bodies.
Black Methodist for Church Renewal (BMCR)
Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR) is the organized Black caucus of the United Methodist Church. We are one of the United Methodist denomination’s five U.S.-based ethnic caucuses. Metodistas Representando la Causa Hispanos Americanos (MARCHA)
MARCHA is the national Hispanic/Latino caucus within the United Methodist Church and the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico, whose purpose is to advocate for the Hispanic/Latino people inside and outside the church. MARCHA's vision is to be an advocacy instrument for the Hispanic/Latino Methodist people that ensures that the contributions and cultural values of the Hispanic/Latino people are received and appreciated in the church and the society.
Native American International Caucus (NAIC)
Native American International Caucus (NAIC) is an advocate for Native peoples, ministries, communities within, as well as outside of the United Methodist Church. "International" in the context of this name means collaboration that occurs between indigenous nations of North America. The Caucus Board is comprised of native people who come from the various parts of Indian Country. We are aware of issues and concerns that affect the Native communities, and we know their gifts and talents.
