The West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church supports a wide variety of mission partners, both local and global, in advancing our common mission to 'make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.' Each month, we will join together in praying for our siblings doing mission and ministry around the world.
February: Immigrants & Refugees
Immigration is an issue that often divides the Church. Yet God’s Word is clear: we are to love the stranger among us. The Book of Resolutions of The United Methodist Church states, “We call upon all United Methodist churches to welcome newly arriving immigrants in their communities, to love them as we do ourselves, to treat them as one of our native-born, to see in them the presence of the incarnated Jesus and to show hospitality to the migrants in our midst believing that through their presence we are receiving the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ." As violence, poverty, and climate change push more people out of their homelands, we will continue to witness a greater number of refugees coming to our borders. We must remember that immigrants and refugees are beloved children of God and should be treated as such. To learn more about what you and your church can do, click here.
This month, please pray for:
- Week 1: Immigrants and refugees who face stereotypes, prejudice, and persecution within the United States.
- Week 2: The many new and innovative ministries being started by Manos Juntas.
- Week 3: West Ohio’s Immigration Legal Clinic, which assists immigrants and refugees with legal matters.
- Week 4: Elected officials who make important decisions regarding government policies on immigration.
Never doubt that your prayers make a difference!
