You're invited to spend the day with leaders from the West Ohio Conference and Districts to share, learn, and celebrate the ministries in the Maumee River District.

Order of the day

• 9:00 a.m. - Doors Open

• 9:30 a.m. - Worship

• 9:45 a.m. - Keynote Speaker, Table Talk & Q&A. Theme: Creating Circuits
  • Kay Kotan - a United Methodist lay person who has devoted her life to strengthening the local church.  She is the author of numerous books on developing lay and clergy leadership, strategic ways of planning ministry, and uniting the mission of the church through an accountable leadership structure.   She comes with years of experience, having coached hundreds of local congregations, clergy, and United Methodist Conferences.  (You can find more information about Kay on her website kaykotan.com)
    • As we move forward in our ministry and mission within our local congregations and our districts, we will begin to form circuits.  Local congregations that are yoked together geographically to serve in a “cooperative” manner for the purpose of discipleship development. Kay will be here to help begin this new way of being “connectional”!  The morning will be spent listening and learning from one another as Kay moves us through a process so that we are better equipped to serve in our communities and with one another.  Kay’s focus will be to share her work on how to effectively develop “Mission Hubs” as we begin to develop our circuits, and how this concept is an opportunity for the local church as it lives out their mission where they are at!

• Simplified Accountable Structure
  • Kay Kotan, United Methodist Lay person, author, coach
    • This is a single leadership team approach.   The purpose of this structure helps clergy and laity to simplify the structure of its leadership so that the mission is the focus within the life of the church. Through this leadership structure, church leaders learn how to better prioritize their gifts, time, and vision for the health of and growth of the local church.       

• Local Church Finances
  • Mr. Bill Brownson, WOC CFO & Director of Administration
    • Breakout session focused on the responsibilities of the finance team within the local church

• Local Church Trustees
  • Rev. Dr. Jim Wilson, District Superintendent of the Western Lakes District
    • The Board of Trustees in the local church, according to Book of Discipline ¶2507, are synonymous with a board of directors as applied to corporations. Join our Western Lakes District Superintendent to explore topics such as governance and the local church, the church as a corporation, and the duties of the trustees.

• 2:30 - Dismiss from sessions.
